MEET THE TRAINING TEAM

LEE TOWNEND

LEE TOWNEND

Lee heads up the Snoworks GAP & PRO instructor training programmes, in his 5th year in this position he commits 100% to the students in their on and off snow training and facilitation. His passion and enthusiasm towards providing the highest quality training, enjoyment and student success is clear from the feedback, testimonials and results achieved.

With 14 winter seasons’ experience, Lee has a very technical based approach towards training the students thus giving them the best possible chance at both BASI levels 1 and 2 (and 3 on the I.S.I.A Gap)

In addition Lee is:

  • An active BASI trainer examining up to BASI level 3 courses
  • A BASI level 4 I.S.T.D instructor
  • A Canadian Ski Coach federation level 2
  • Co-director of Snoworks GAP & PRO instructor training programmes
  • A Snoworks Ski Courses instructor based in Courchevel
  • On the ski test team for the Ski Club of Great Britain
  • A premier training Fitness instructor
  • A keen skydiver & road cyclist
PHIL SMITH

PHIL SMITH

Phil Smith is the managing director of Snoworks Ski Courses and co-director of Snoworks GAP & PRO instructor training programmes. With over 30 seasons’ experience he brings an unmatchable level of experience and knowledge to the company. Phil’s approach is a very physical, tactical and psychological one. Whilst he is gifted with an incredible depth of technical knowledge he leaves this aspect to Lee and takes on the ‘just do it’ approach. This as you can imagine is a very fun, energetic and exciting way to learn and ski.

In addition Phil is:

  • A BASI level 4 I.S.T.D instructor
  • A Snoworks Ski Courses instructor based in Tignes
  • Co-author of the third addition of the BASI manual and original Central Theme
  • Presenter and deliverer of ski training videos ‘Ski Tips’ and ‘Ultimate All Terrain’
  • A keen canoeist and road cyclist
NICK QUINN

NICK QUINN

Nick is a relatively new addition to Snoworks GAP and PRO instructor training courses, however he is not new to the world of ski teaching. With over 14 seasons in the Alps he brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and insane amounts of enthusiasm to every session he delivers from the first one in late October right through to the last in May!

In the past Nick was the technical director for BASI and this was an obvious attraction to having him work with us and the students here on the GAP courses.

He also spent several seasons coaching junior skiers towards Scottish team selection.

His technical and tactical approach to skiing is simplistic and effective, the feedback and results speak volumes.

In addition Nick is:

  • A BASI level 4 I.S.T.D instructor
  • A Snoworks Ski Courses instructor based in Tignes
  • A Canadian Ski Coach federation level 2
  • A property mogul in Tignes and an ex fireman
Rupert Goldring

Rupert Goldring

Rupert was a ski bum who was forcefully persuaded to take some ski instructors’ qualification. It was when skis were still straight and their length Freudian. His examiner was Phil Smith. Phil imparted his charging passion upon a wide-eyed Rupert, and they were to become friends.

A few years later Rupert was fully qualified and began to work for Phil. As Phil developed his instructor-training program, with the emphatic influence of Lee, so Rupert helped with the coaching. More recently Rupert has been involved in the ISIA training program for Snoworks.

Rupert is a BASI examiner for would be Level 4 instructors. He is also a member of the current British Interski team. He is co-director of a ski school in Val d’Isere, Mountain Masters.

In addition Linda is:

  • An incredibly keen All-Mountain Snoworks skier, often found smashing through the powder
